LOCATION ADVICE
Water abundantly when planting. Then watering is the most vital element, especially in the first year, because the roots are not yet well established. Deep watering is required when the soil begins to dry out, normally after a full week without rain. Installing a perforated garden hose at the feet of the cedars will make your job easier. Open the water once a week, one hour at a time.
Avoid light but frequent hand watering that only moistens the soil a few inches to the surface because the roots will remain shallow rather than forming deep. Applying mulch to the ground at the foot of the hedge will help moderate water loss and keep the soil moist more evenly while reducing the risk of weed spread.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
At planting: sprinkle 10 g (about 1 tablespoon) of fertilizer per cedar plant (or linear foot). The fertilizer should be spread on the surface, at a distance of 6 to 8 inches from the trunk. WARNING: Do not apply directly to roots!
In maintenance (plants already established): sprinkle 20 g (about 1 small handle) above the root zone of each plant (or linear foot). This area is bounded by foliage. Apply the fertilizer three times a year, in mid-April, mid-May and mid-June.
WARNING: Do not apply fertilizer after mid-July: this may stimulate fall growth prone to winter damage.
